The program is conceived to offer a focused graduate study covering several aspects of automotive engineering. These aspects range from the inner workings of the automobile engine to external aspects such as vehicle aerodynamics, and from the properties of the materials used in automobiles to transportation analysis. The theoretical foundations of industrial practice and practical applications of the theory of mechanics, dynamics, combustion, aerodynamics, etc. will be presented in a well-balanced fashion. Representatives from the industry will be invited occasionally as guest speakers to give seminars on the current state of affairs and trends in the automotive sector.
The student body that the program aims at consists of engineering graduates who are currently employed in the automotive sector as well as those who have a personal interest in the field and wish to apply for professional positions in the sector. The graduates of the program will be endowed with a profound understanding of the automobile as an engineering system as a whole. These graduates, having gone through an additional and focused training, are likely to occupy key positions in the industry in the long term.
It is also anticipated that this program will strengthen the relations between the automotive industry, the academia at large and Bogazici University in particular.
For the completion of the program, the students will be required to take 30 credits of coursework consisting of 10 courses and a research project. The research project is be selected jointly by the student, a faculty member and a representative from an industrial partner. There are no required courses; all 10 courses will be chosen by the student subject to the approval of the advisor. Students can finish the program in 3 semesters or 4.
** This program is subject to additional tuition and fees.
