General Information for Students with Disabilities

Boğaziçi University (BU) aims to create a university community that is fully accessible to everyone, including individuals with disabilities, and that ensures maximum participation within the university campus. BU is committed to making all necessary arrangements to ensure that students with disabilities can access all programs and activities offered to students.

Letters to Your Instructor:

Upon the request of the course instructor, a file prepared by the Boğaziçi University Disability Unit containing a copy of your medical board report issued by a fully equipped state hospital, along with documents explaining your condition and the recommended accommodations, will be sent to the instructor by the Disability Commission.

Midterms and Finals:

Room changes required for midterms are the responsibility of the course instructor and the teaching assistant, and depend on communication and cooperation with the Registrar’s Office. Please remember that instructors need sufficient time to make these arrangements. Kindly assist by providing adequate notice to the instructors to ensure the necessary accommodations related to your special needs are made. Final exam locations are arranged by the Registrar’s Office. In this case, please contact your instructor and ask them to inform the Registrar’s Office about the need for a room change.

GETEM as an Online Library

The online library project designed by Boğaziçi University’s Technology and Education Laboratory for the Visually Impaired (GETEM) aims to provide access to information resources for the visually impaired. This project covers not only the visually impaired population (around 400,000 in Turkey), but also individuals with other types of disabilities that prevent them from fully benefiting from printed materials (e.g., those who are paralyzed or dyslexic). The library's collection primarily includes publications in Turkish and English. It features books in genres such as stories, novels, and poetry, as well as educational materials (books, articles, lecture notes) used at various levels of education, recordings of certain courses and conferences, and additional scientific articles and books. In addition, GETEM’s catalog includes various other content such as radio plays, MP3 versions of audio-described films, and audio guides for computers and smart devices.
