The Faculty of Education at Boğaziçi University was established in 1982. It comprises five departments offering a total of nine undergraduate programs. These programs include: Guidance and Psychological Counseling within the Department of Educational Sciences; English Language Teaching in the Department of Foreign Language Education; Early Childhood Education in the Department of Elementary Education; Computer Education and Instructional Technology in the Department of Computer Education and Educational Technology; and Science Education, Elementary Mathematics Education, Mathematics Education, Physics Education, and Chemistry Education within the Department of Mathematics and Science Education. Additionally, a reciprocal double major option is available between the undergraduate programs in Guidance and Psychological Counseling and Early Childhood Education.
At the graduate level, the Department of Educational Sciences offers master's degrees in Guidance and Psychological Counseling, Curriculum Development, and Adult Education, as well as a Ph.D. in Adult Education. The Department of Foreign Language Education offers both master's and Ph.D. programs in English Language Education. The Department of Mathematics and Science Education offers master's and Ph.D. programs in Science and Mathematics Education. Furthermore, the Ph.D. program in Learning Sciences is supported jointly by three departments. Depending on the field, graduate programs are administered either by the Institute for Graduate Studies in Social Sciences or the Institute for Graduate Studies in Sciences and Engineering.
In general terms, undergraduate programs consist of professional coursework, while graduate studies focus on advanced theoretical knowledge and specialized applied research. All programs aim to maintain a dynamic balance between theory and practice, encouraging their integration. Each program offers a wide range of electives, allowing students to tailor their education to their individual interests and strengths. The faculty is committed to training competent teachers, educators, and psychological counselors while taking into account students' physical, emotional, and social needs. Therefore, students are encouraged and supported to participate in sports, arts, and literature activities through various student clubs. Promoting student participation in international exchange programs is also one of the faculty’s key principles. As with all Boğaziçi University programs, both the undergraduate and graduate programs of the Faculty of Education are among the top choices for prospective students.
The faculty currently has 109 academic staff members, either full-time or part-time. Among them, there are 54 faculty members, 37 lecturers, and 18 research assistants. Administrative and technical operations are handled by 21 administrative and 2 technical personnel. The first “computer applications in education” laboratory in Turkey was established in this faculty in 1984, initiating the delivery of computer-assisted education courses. Today, the faculty hosts four computer laboratories. It has also played a pioneering role in research and practice in science and mathematics education, currently supported by one physics laboratory, one chemistry laboratory, and one general science laboratory. Additionally, the faculty houses an Undergraduate Education and Research Laboratory, a Visual Materials Laboratory, a Psycho-Educational Observation Laboratory, a Preschool Education Laboratory, and a specialized library. All facilities of the Faculty of Education are located on the Boğaziçi University North Campus.
