MASTER OF ARTS PROGRAM
Students with Bachelor's degrees in Turkish Language and Literature or a related field can continue their studies in the department's master's program (MA) after a rigorous selection process. The required courses for the program are designed to offer specialization in either premodern or modern Turkish literature, while supporting interdisciplinary and comparative research. Upon graduating, students obtain an MA degree in Turkish Language and Literature.
The students need to complete 21 credits to receive their MA degree, in addition to attending a non-credit seminar course in the first year and writing a thesis in the second year. 6/9 credits are taken from required courses and the remaining 12/15 credits can be completed by taking departmental elective or non-departmental elective courses. Regardless of their prospective area of specialization, all students are required to take the courses TKL 501 and TKL 532.The students are encouraged to complete a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 credits from other graduate programs in related departments such as History, Western Languages and Literatures, Philosophy, Sociology, Ataturk Institute for Modern Turkish History or Translation and Interpreting Studies with the consent of their graduate advisor.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY PROGRAM
The Ph.D. program of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature is designed to prepare promising young scholars for academic careers in teaching and research in Turkish literature and related fields. Our program offers specialization in two different areas of research: Classical Turkish Literature or Modern Turkish Literature. The program encourages students to pursue interdisciplinary and comparative research. In addition to the seminar courses, we offer workshops, talks, and informal meetings, providing a welcoming environment of intellectual and scholarly culture for students.
Students eligible for the program must have previous undergraduate or graduate degrees in literature. In the first three semesters, Ph.D. students are required to complete minimum 25 credits of coursework. This is followed by a qualifying examination. Students are expected to work on their doctoral dissertations in the third and fourth years.
There are a total of seven elective courses in each area of specialization (premodern or modern Turkish literature). Students may take some of their courses from one of these areas of specialization. To be able to write a dissertation in one of the two specialization areas, a minimum of 16 credits must be completed from the specialization electives of that particular area of study.
With the consent of the advisor, a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 12 credits must be taken from other graduate programs in related departments such as History, Western Languages and Literatures, Philosophy, Linguistics, Sociology, Ataturk Institute for Modern Turkish History, or Translation and Interpreting Studies.

Thematic study of literary journals, especially those which influenced the history of Turkish literature (such as Servet-i Funun and Varlik). Emphasis on Tanzimat and Servet-i Funun periods when the journals became literary centres.
