The course requirements for an M.A. degree in Sociology entail 21/25 credit hours of graduate courses. Upon the successful completion of course requirements, all M.A. candidates are required to write an M.A. thesis.
A series of specialization electives in various sub-fields of sociology are offered. Additional electives may be added at the discretion of the department.

SOC 501 Advanced Research Methods I (4+0+0) 4

A general survey of social science research techniques. Experimental and non-experimental research designs. Measurement theory, reliability and validity. Sampling theory and designs. Overview of statistical evaluation procedures. Panel designs.
SOC 502 Advanced Research Methods II (4+0+0) 4
(İleri Araştırma Metodları II)
Data collection techniques. Scaling procedures. Multivariate analysis techniques including multiple correlation and regression, multiple classification analysis, factor analysis and related procedures. Complex experimental designs. The writing of research reports.
SOC 503 Sociological Theory I: History of Sociological Theory (4+0+0) 4

The course reviews the origins and the development of some of the principal concepts which constitute the elements of modern sociology. For that purpose the works of major theorists are studied from the point of view of emergence of a sociological perspective.

The course critically focuses on some of the contemporary perspectives in sociology and evaluates them according to their assumptions, internal consistency, theoretical rigor, and political consequences. This is mainly a survey course in contemporary sociological theory.

This course reviews the theoretical developments in the field of political sociology since the 19th century. The discussion of these various theoretical developments will be related to the continuity and change in social institutions and political processes.

This course attempts to develop a sociologically structured theory and method for the study of historical change and stability. It will focus on issues relating to the history of the state, political revolutions, and economic and legal institutions.

It involves careful and intensive reading and analysis in one of the areas in contemporary sociological theory, and the critical evaluation of the debates in that area.
