GRADUATE PROGRAMS IN PSYCHOLOGY
The Psychology Department offers a Master's degree program with two tracks: Clinical Psychology and Psychological Sciences. Under the Psychological Sciences track are the following specialization areas: Cognitive Psychology, Social Psychology, Psychobiology and Learning, and Developmental Psychology. Students in the Psychological Sciences track may choose one of these areas for specialization. The department also offers two Ph.D. programs: Clinical Psychology and Psychological Sciences.
MASTER OF ARTS PROGRAM IN CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY
The Master's degree program in Clinical Psychology is designed to prepare the student for a professional career in clinical psychology in applied settings as well as providing a basis for continued advanced studies. The program offers a thorough grounding in the theoretical underpinnings of psychopathology, psychotherapy and intensive individual assessment. The student also has various practical opportunities for the application of the theoretical material.
This is a two-year program with the first year devoted to completing all of the course requirements, and the second year to preparation of a thesis based on original research and an internship experience (32 credit hours).

MASTER OF ARTS PROGRAMS IN PSYCHOLOGY
The Master's degree program in Psychological Sciences is designed to prepare the students for an academic career by providing a basis for continued advanced studies. The program offers a specialization in Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Social Psychology and Psychobiology and Learning. The program in Psychological Sciences is for two years: in the first year, the students are expected to complete all the course requirements (32 credits), and in the second year to prepare a thesis based on original research.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY PROGRAM IN PSYCHOLOGY
The program is designed to provide students with an advanced level of scholarly training that will prepare them for a career in one of the four options of the program. The program provides a solid background in theory and research methods in psychology in general, with an in-depth focus in one of the optional areas.
The Ph.D. program in Psychological Sciences consists of four options:
Option A: Behavioral Neuroscience
Option B: Cognitive Psychology
Option C: Developmental Psychology
Option D: Social Psychology
The program requires successful completion of a minimum of 28 credits comprising a total of seven 4-credit regular courses. Candidates are also required to pass a directed readings course (PSY 68R/S/T/U), and a qualifying exam, to complete two full years of lab/field work and submit a doctoral dissertation based on empirical research. PSY 602 Advanced Seminar in Statistics is an extra requirement for those candidates who are judged by the program advisor to require further training in statistics. PSY 503 Ethics is a noncredit requirement for those students who have not taken an equivalent course earlier.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY PROGRAM IN CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY
The Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology is designed to provide the students with advanced level training that will enable them to function effectively as practitioners as well as academicians. The program includes a solid background in theory and supervised practical training in clinical assessment and psychotherapeutic interventions.
The program requires the successful completion of 36 credits comprising a total of 9 four credit courses. Candidates are also required to complete a noncredit externship, a doctoral dissertation, and work leading up to the dissertation. For those who have not had such a course before, PSY 503 is a noncredit requirement.
The externship is a practical training experience involving clinical assessment and psychotherapy at an approved hospital and/or clinic, to be supervised by a clinical psychologist member of the Psychology Department. The externship, expected to total 20 hours per week, including four hours of supervision, will begin upon starting the program and last until the qualifying exam. Externship work will proceed in tandem with the academic program and the evaluation will be done on a noncredit Pass/Fail basis. A total of 1000 hours of externship are required. Those students who do not receive a "satisfactory" evaluation until the qualifying exam will not be able to take the qualifying exam.
