The Department of Sociology offers a four-year program leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree. The undergraduate program of the Department of Sociology is designed to enhance the student's capacity for critical analysis and understanding of social issues. It provides a broad cultural background combined with rigorous training in the major theoretical issues and research methods of sociological analysis. Students have the opportunity to take a range of courses that will prepare them for positions involving teaching, research, and administration in a variety of organizational settings.
The department offers a double-major program to the students of Economics, History, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations, and Psychology.

Educational goals and objectives
The BA in Sociology at Boğaziçi University cultivates critical thinkers skilled in theoretical and empirical approaches to society. Students develop a foundation in sociological theory and research methods while engaging interdisciplinarily with related departments. The program aims to foster a global perspective on social issues and prepare students for academic or diverse career paths. Active engagement through seminars, workshops, and departmental research is encouraged.
Admission and special requirements
In addition to being graduated from high school, the enrollment of students into the department is contingent upon their performance in the EA section of the national university entrance exam.
Acknowledgement of previous learning
After being transferred from another institution, students will be able to make transfer their previous successfully completed credits of the courses that are deemed suitable for our department in accordance with the Boğaziçi University Transfer Regulations (https://www.boun.edu.tr/tr_TR/Content/Ogrenciler/Ogrenci_Isleri/Yonetmelik_ve_Ic_Tuzukler/Yatay_Gecis_Yonetmeligi). The recognition of courses taken by students participating in international exchange programs will be arranged through the Learning Agreement they prepare with their advisors before the mobility process commences.
Graduation requirements
To graduate from the undergraduate program and to be eligible to receive a diploma, the student must complete all courses, both credit-bearing and non-credit-bearing, with a grade of at least DD or a 'P' grade. The student must complete a total of 138/139 credits & 243 AKTS credits. Additionally, the student must complete the undergraduate program with a minimum GPA of 2.00.

An inquiry into the relation between gender and social structure and practice. Examines the position of women in society, their accession to the economic and political spheres and the history of women's movements in different societies. Topics included are: women in the family and the home, the construction of gender identities, the meanings attached to masculinity and femininity, and the contextuality of gender differences. Critically reviews sociological categories and introduces concepts that can take into account the gendered nature of social reality.

An examination of various theoretical perspectives, the positivism-antipositivism debate, empiricism, historicism and positive science, the limits of sociological inquiry and the limits of theory, interpretive sociology, objectivism, the Frankfurt School and Critical Theory.

The role of social memory in contemporary society. Exploration of various sites, dynamics and politics of individual and collective accounts of remembering/forgetting the past in the present. The study of social memory within particular historical, political and social settings, especially in connection to power relations. Theories of social memory as well as the particular forms and sites of memory such as autobiography, testimony, monuments, everyday life, national and post-national memories, and politics of memory in different contexts.
