Campuses
THE SOUTH CAMPUS
The Boğaziçi University Cultural Center (Albert Long Hall, 1890) houses the Kriton Curi and John Freely lecture rooms and an assembly hall with a seating capacity of 479, used for conferences, concerts, and public meetings.
The Dodge Gymnasium (1904) and Social Activities Building (Henrietta Washburn Hall, 1914), which houses a theater and the office of International Relations, is the center of student athletic and extracurricular activities.
The Engineering Building (Perkins Hall, 1962) is a four-story building that houses the office of the Dean of Engineering as well as the Civil, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering Departments.
The Administration Building (Gates Hall, 1913) houses the Registrar's Office, the Summer Term Office, the Student Affairs Office and the Financial Aid Office.
The Administrative Sciences Building (Washburn Hall, 1906) houses the office of the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences as well as the departments of Business Administration and Political Science and International Relations.
The Arts and Sciences Building (Anderson Hall, 1913), houses the office of the Dean and the departments of History, Mathematics, Philosophy and Western Languages and Literature.
The English Preparatory Building (1974) houses the School of Foreign Languages and the department of Translation and Interpretation.
The Alexander Van Millingen Hall (1932), houses the offices for the Rector, Vice-Rectors, Dean of Student Affairs and the Secretary General as well as the Personnel, Research and Planning Offices.
The Sloane Hall (1925), houses the Psychology and Sociology Departments.
The Natuk Birkan Building (2004), houses the İbrahim Bodur Auditorium, Turhan Esener Hall, lecture rooms, and the departments of Economics and Turkish Language and Literature.
The Hülya Bozkurt Art Studio (2001), houses two painting studios, a dark room and a movie assembly room for Painting, Applied Arts and Photography lectures. In addition, a ceramics studio is located under the ground floor of the Infirmary building next door.
Mithat Alam Film Center (1999), has a 61 seat Theatre where regular film secreenings are complemented by discussions, panels, presentations and workshops. The DVD collection in the Film Archive Room is one of the largest collections in Türkiye and all material inside the archive is kept according to technical standards per se. Students can watch films from the archive by reserving The Film Preview Room on the ground floor. The Cinephile Room, serves both as a reference library for researchers and cinephiles, and as a meeting point for students for chatting on films and it is one of the animated places in the center.
The South Campus also boasts one men's and one women's residence hall (Hamlin 1871) and Theodorus (1902) Halls, respectively) and a number of service facilities such as the Computer Center, the Infirmary, a faculty center (Kennedy Lodge) as well as the University Cultural Heritage Museum. The Old Carpentry Building houses the Institute of Social Sciences and Institutional Communications Office.
THE NORTH CAMPUS
The Abdullah Kuran Library houses the University’s central library collections.
The Science and Engineering Building houses laboratories, seminar rooms and offices for the departments of Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Civil and Mechanical Engineering laboratories, Polymer Research Center and the Confucius Institute are also located in this building. The Post Office and TEKMER Center of Technology are on the ground floor. TEKMER offers workshops to entrepreneurs focusing on research and development. The center was created after a protocol signed between Boğaziçi University and KOSGEB (Small& Medium Enterprises Development Organization) in 1996 and started its activities in 1997.
The Faculty of Education Building has classrooms of various sizes, as well as offices for the Dean of Education and the departments of Computer Education and Education Technology, Educational Sciences, Foreign Language Education and Department of Mathematics and Science Education.
The Education Technology Building Block-A houses the offices, classrooms and laboratories of the Computer Engineering Department. Block-B of the same building contains the Department of Primary Education, a multi-purpose auditorium (Turgut Noyan Auditorium), and the Computer Center PC labs.
The North Park Building houses the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics and the Turkish Language Courses Coordination Unit. The Social Policies Forum, the Boğaziçi University-TÜSİAD Foreign Policy Forum, the Peace Education Application and Research Center, the Blind People Technology Education Center (GETEM), a cafeteria, and a two-story car park are also located in the building.
The North Campus also contains three residence halls for men and women, the main student cafeteria, a bookstore, a laundry and additional offices and classrooms for the School of Foreign Languages.
THE UÇAKSAVAR CAMPUS
The Uçaksavar Campus features a housing complex for faculty and staff, a student dormitory (the “Superdorm”) and a large athletic complex including a stadium and a fully equipped gymnasium. The Life Long Learning Center is also located on this campus.
The Garanti Culture Center (2004), has a conference hall (Ayhan Şahenk Hall) with a seating capacity of 500, multipurpose seminar rooms, a foyer, a dance performance studio, and a parking garage.
THE HİSAR CAMPUS
The Hisar Campus, overlooks the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge across the Bosphorus. The building houses the office of the Director of the School of Applied Disciplines and the departments of International Trade, Management Information Systems and Tourism Administration, the Institute of Environmental Sciences, and their laboratories. The campus also includes classrooms, three amphitheaters, a cafeteria, an indoor swimming pool and a gymnasium.
THE KANDİLLİ CAMPUS
The Kandilli Observatory was founded in 1868 in the Tünel district of İstanbul and was then called the Imperial Observatory. In 1890, it moved to its present location.
In 1982, The Kandilli Observatory was annexed to Boğaziçi University. The Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute was then founded in order to offer a Master's program in the field. The observatory was later transformed into the Center for the Research and Application of Aerial and Terrestrial Sciences. The Center is made of two sections: the Terrestrial Sciences Service and the Aerial Sciences Service. The Terrestrial Sciences Service is comprised of the seismology, geo-magnetism and meteorology laboratories. The Aerial Sciences Service has two laboratories for solar physics and optics.
The Center has also formed a network of earthquake stations throughout the country; The stations in the Marmara region are radiolink stations. The Kandilli Observatory and Institute of Earthquake Research maintains constant contact with all stations and strives to spread the network to the remotest corners of Anatolia.
The Institute of Biomedical Engineering, established in 1982, has recently moved to its new building on the Kandilli Campus with expanded laboratory facilities.
Current areas of research at the Institute laboratories include biomedical instrumentation and bioelectronics, biomechanics, neurosignal analysis, biophotonics, medical imaging, cellular imaging and electrophysiology, robotics, medical device design and testing and psychophysics.
THE SARITEPE CAMPUS
The Sarıtepe Campus lies to the west of Kilyos - a former fishermen’s town on the Black Sea coast, 35 km from Istanbul, which has become a popular touristic resort.
The campus, annexed to the Boğaziçi University property in 1985, features two dormitory buildings, the Residence Building, the Boarding Facility, the Student Activities Building (Block A) and YADYOK Building (Block B). The Residence Building provides housing mainly for the academic and administrative personnel working on the campus. Block A houses three auditoriums and offices for students’ club activities. Block B features offices and classrooms for the Sarıtepe Branch of the Foreign Languages School English Preparatory Unit, Coastal Engineering laboratory of the Civil Engineering Department, the Visual Activities Room, the Distance Education Center, the Music Chamber and the Dining Hall. The Boarding Facility that overlooks the beach serves the academic and administrative staff and the graduates of the University as a place of recreation throughout the summer season, with its restaurant and rooms for accommodation. The Sarıtepe Campus also features one of Istanbul’s most popular beaches, the BURC Beach.
There is a regular bus service between the Sarıtepe and the Main Campuses.
STAFF AND STUDENT NUMBERS
During the 2009-2010 academic year, approximately 8500 undergraduate and 3500 graduate students were enrolled in the various faculties of the University.
During the same period, the University employed approximately 600 full time and 350 part time faculty, as well as 350 research and teaching assistants.
CAMPUS RESOURCE CENTERS AND SERVICES
THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
Robert College, founded by Dr. Cyrus Hamlin in 1863, housed the predecessor of the Boğaziçi University Library with an initial collection of 200 law books donated by the Harvard Law School. The present building, completed in 1982 and named in 1999 after Prof. Aptullah Kuran, the founding Rector of Boğaziçi University, currently holds about 582.953 printed books, journals, CDs, DVDs, microfilms in English, Turkish, French, German and other languages and 48.500 e-books, 24.550 full-text e-journals.
The Near East Collection is the richest collection of Near East materials in Western languages in the world, with special emphasis on the history and culture of the Ottoman Empire and neighboring regions.
The Rare Books Division contains early editions of books and manuscripts.
The Reference Department provides materials for research, deals with general reference inquiries and provides interlibrary loan services.
The Audio-Visual Center maintains a selected collection of films and music and voice recordings. The center houses individual facilities for listening to phonograph records and watching films.
Assigned readings for specific courses are placed on reserve at the request of faculty members. Lists of reserve books and articles can be found at the circulation desk of the Reserve Room.
The Library receives 650 current print periodicals and more than 24.550 full text electronic journals. It also keeps major international abstracts and indexes to periodic literature. Microfilm files of The Times, The New York Times, Cumhuriyet and Milliyet are also available.
The Library has a Braille collection featuring reference books, textbooks, novels and periodicals.
The Adalet Ağaoğlu Research Room houses documents and materials about the writer.
The services of the Library are available to faculty, students and administrative staff, as well as to users from other national and international research institutions.
COMPUTER CENTER
Boğaziçi University Computer Center (BUCC) is a service unit, which provides computing facilities in support of research, education, and administration. The services offered by the BUCC include providing computational equipment, their hardware and software maintenance, and the maintenance of software resources such as compilers, utilities and application programs. The BUCC also develops application software for the administrative departments of the university.
In the Computer Center there are both Windows and UNIX servers running mainly mail and web services. The total disk capacity of servers is about 1 TB and the total disk capacity of storage systems is 50 TB.
Training courses for Windows based office software and internet technologies can be organized for academic and administrative staff at the Computer Center. Support services for building websites, creating web applications and doing graphical designs for press documents and websites are available to all units of the University. The Computer Center also gives support for complicated tasks such as video editing or creating animations.
ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES R&D CENTRAL LABORATORY
Boğaziçi University Advanced Technologies R&D Central Laboratory is a central scientific and technological service unit which is established aiming to enhance the research capacity of Boğaziçi University. The Center currently focuses on the micro-characterization of various types of samples, ranging from determination of molecular structure of the active chemicals in drugs to the characterization of crystals formed on the catalyst surfaces, with the help of the high technology equipments and systems that it has. The Center has
- a 400 MHz BB liquid NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance), Varian Mercury-VX,
- a high (2 nm) resolution ESEM-STEM (Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope) system, which is equipped with a full range of EDS Detector-Image Processing and a high temperature attachment, allowing samples to be analyzed and studied in their natural environment, Philips XL30 ESEM-FEG,
- an XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) system equipped with a multipurpose attachment used for pole figure and stress-strain analysis as well as a high temperature attachment, Rigaku D/Max-Ultima+/PC,
- an AFM (Atomic Force Microscope) for micro-topographical analysis of samples, Ambios-Quesant Q-Scope Universal SPM (Scanning Probe Microscope) with AFM
- a Zeta potential/particle sizer, Brookhaven Instruments 90Plus Particle Size /Zeta Analyzer
- a sample preparation laboratory that is fully equipped with the systems used in preparing samples to be analyzed in ESEM-STEM, AFM and XRD units.
THE LIFELONG LEARNING CENTER
Led by the Lifelong Learning Center, Boğaziçi University offers courses, seminars and training programs in a variety of subjects for public and private sector employees and NGO members, to enable them to keep abreast of developments in their fields and to acquire new skills. Besides the corporate programs, the Lifelong Learning Center offers the following open admission programs:
- Basic and interdisciplinary programs in various areas of expertise for university graduates;
- Vocational training programs for high school graduates;
- Personal Development Programs for high school and university graduates;
- Updating Programs for university graduates;
- Short courses , workshops and seminars.

THE STUDENT GUIDANCE AND PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING CENTER (BÜREM)
The Student Guidance and Psychological Counseling Center (BÜREM), is founded in 1992, is a service unit for students. BÜREM aims to help students in educational, social and personal domains of development. It works in collaboration with other units of the university for the improvement of student mental health services. Especially for cases that may require medication, BÜREM works in close collaboration with the psychiatrist at the infirmary. Confidentiality and competence are the primary principles in BÜREM activities. Personal information about students can not be shared with other parties without the student’s consent. The only exception to this rule is under circumstances where there is a risk of harming oneself or others.
The BÜREM team consists of full time, part-time and volunteer counselors and psychologists who have master’s degrees in their fields and are committed to ongoing professional development through in-service training, supervision and consultation. Advanced students from counseling, psychology and related programs have the opportunity to practice their fields under supervision.
BÜREM services include giving information and guidance; group guidance and counseling; individual counseling; evaluation, research and development of services provided; and cooperation with and support of other student services and professional organizations. When needs exceed the resources of the BÜREM and the infirmary, students are referred to hospitals or other clinical and counseling centers outside the university.
OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
The Office of International Relations provides assistance to participants of Exchange Programs (Overseas and the Erasmus Program) and to the Special Student Program*. It is also the first point of contact for foreign students who pursue a degree at Boğaziçi University. It assists all incoming and outgoing students with the application process. For outgoing students, the office organizes information sessions, handles all applications and announces placements results. For incoming students, the office organizes orientation sessions, offers registration advice, acts as the contact point to all administrative and academic units at Boğaziçi University, and helps with questions related to visa matters and government regulations. *The Special Student Program is for students from universities which are not exchange partners of Boğaziçi University but wish to attend Boğaziçi University for one or two semesters. Those who have already graduated can also apply to this program.
FINANCIAL AID OFFICE
The Financial Aid Office coordinates both merit and need based scholarships. Merit based awards and scholarships are given each year to students on the basis of their scores in the Undergraduate Placement Examinations (LYS). Applications for need based scholarships are accepted at the beginning of each academic year. Recipients are selected based on their needs and available funds. Both types of scholars may benefit from one or more of the following supports each year :

E. Summer School Tuition.
The Scholarship committee is formed by the Dean of the Students, the Financial Aid Office Coordinator and a member of each Faculty appointed by the President of the University. Approximately one out of every three Bogaziçi University students gets some form of financial support through these different scholarships.
REGISTRAR'S OFFICE
The Registrar's Office is responsible for the registration of students and the provision of necessary information to applicants at the beginning of each term. In addition to the Registrar's Office, students can consult their advisors for information concerning university regulations.
OFFICE OF STUDENT RESIDENCES
Boğaziçi University has 9 student dormitories that house a total of 3317 students. Most dormitories are exclusively for undergraduate students who reside outside Istanbul. One of the dorms, Superdorm, houses both undergraduate and graduate students. A new graduate dorm is slated to be built in 2011.
STUDENT AFFAIRS COORDINATION COUNCIL
The Student Affairs Coordination Council oversees all student activities. All club activities are conducted under the guidance of the Parliament of Clubs and all social activities involving members of the student body go through the Student Affairs Coordination Council. STUDENT AFFAIRS OFFICE
The Student Affairs Office is responsible for issues related to military service deferment of male students who have Turkish citizenship; issues identity cards and student discount vouchers for public transportation, and also is the center for lost property.
OFFICE OF THE DEAN OF STUDENT AFFAIRS
The aim of the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs at Boğaziçi University is to enhance the quality of all aspects of student life on campus. To this end, the office coordinates the activities of several academic and administrative offices related to students; processes student applications concerning academic, social and administrative issues and endeavours to improve the quality of student services (e.g. residences, transportation, extracurricular activities). STUDENT CLUBS AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Student life within the University is rich and diverse, with activities to cater for almost all talents and interests. The University has a tradition of encouraging extra-curricular activities that are consistent with the educational objectives of the institution and in line with the interests of students. PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICE
The goal of the Public Relations Office is to communicate effectively and regularly with Boğaziçi University's constituencies including prospective students, the parents of prospective students, current students, the parents of current students, alumni, faculty, staff and the general public.
The Public Relations Office informs the campus community and the public at large of University activities and events. The office also manages the content and production of the commencement program, as well as publications and guides related to the University. It supports the conference organizations of academic departments and the classical music concert series which have been organized for the past five years.
THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The Alumni Association (BÜMED) is an organization composed primarily of Boğaziçi University and pre-1971 Robert College graduates. It seeks to support the University and to represent the views of graduates within the University community.
HEALTH CARE SERVICE
The Boğaziçi University Health Center (BUHC) provides preventive care and basic medical treatment to all students and university personnel. Heath services are provided predominantly within the infirmary building on the Main (South) Campus. In addition, there is on-site medical staff (doctor and/or nurse) at smaller Health Clinics within Kilyos and Kandilli Campuses during weekday business hours. At BUHC, patients are treated either on-site or referred to a local hospital. Medical treatment at BUHC is free. Foreign students should check first with the international office whether they are required to have personal health insurance. BUHC is open every day twenty four hours, if not, its phones (212 359 4440) automatically connect to a 7/24 health hotline service.
SPORTS FACILITIES
The University offers a comprehensive sports program as well as a full program of extra-curricular sports activities. A major sports complex, which includes a soccer field, a six-lane tartan track and a gymnasium with extensive training equipment, is located on the Uçaksavar Campus. All students have access to the large outdoor swimming pool on the South Campus and the indoor swimming pool on the Hisar Campus.
Current extra-curricular sports offerings include: aerobics, aikido, football, track and field, badminton, basketball, cycling, fencing, soccer, handball, gymnastics, rowing, table tennis, tennis, taekwondo-do, triathlon, volleyball, sailing and skiing.
