The School of Foreign Languages is composed of English Preperatory Division, Advanced English Division and Modern Languages Division. The Preperatory Division administers an English proficiency examination to all incoming students. Those who can demonstrate the required level of English proficiency start their Freshman programs. Those who cannot provide proof of English proficiency via a proficiency exam accepted by the University Senate complete the program at the English Preparatory School. The English Preparatory School instructs incoming students in academic English so that at the end of their preparatory year they can start their Freshman programs and pursue their studies in English. The Advanced English Division aims to offer students a wide variety of electives that will contribute to their cultural formation and confidence in written and oral expression in English as well as help them adopt a lifelong respect for ethical standards and critical thinking. The Modern Languages Unit offers to students of all departments courses in many languages (Armenian, French, German, Greek, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish) and provides both practical training in written and spoken language. For some languages (French, German and Spanish), translation courses as well as introductory courses in Literature and Culture are also available.
