The Faculty of Education was founded in 1982, and it combines professional, academic and research objectives in line with the university's traditions of high standarts. These objectives are two-fold: (a) to foster intellectual preparation and development, and (b) to provide professional training for young people seeking careers in the fields of teaching as well as guidance and psychological counseling in primary and secondary schools.
The Faculty consists of five departments: The Department of Educational Sciences, the Department of Foreign Language Education, the Department of Computer Education and Educational Technology, the Department of Primary Education, and the Department of Secondary School Science and Mathematics Education. All departments, with the exception of the Department of Secondary School Science and Mathematics Education, offer a bachelor's degree, with advanced degree programs available in the departments of Educational Sciences (M.A. in Guidance and Psychological Counseling), Foreign Language Education (M.A. and Ph.D. in English Language Education), and Secondary School Science and Mathematics Education (M.S. and Ph.D. in Secondary School Science and Mathematics Education), which also offers an M. Ed. without thesis. In addition, two double major programs are offered, one in Educational Sciences and Psychology, and another in Educational Sciences and Preschool Education.
The graduate and the undergraduate programs offered by the Faculty have cooperative ties with the other faculties of the university in general and with the departments of Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Western Languages and Literatures and Computer Engineering in particular.
The Faculty of Education gives personal attention to its students and uses creative approaches in the development of programs of study to meet the needs of prospective teachers, educators and counselors.
The students of the Faculty of Education have the opportunity to choose courses offered by various departments and programs throughout the university necessary for the completion of degree requirements. Students are also encouraged to take advantage of a wide variety of extra-curricular activities such as sports, theater, cinema, music and various clubs and societies on campus.
